How do I tell if my Olive Oil is pure?
Extra virgin olive oil solidifies when it’s cold. You can put it in the refrigerator and it should become cloudy and thicken. If it doesn’t then it’s not pure extra virgin.
Olive Oil is one of the most cut and faked oils in the world. Lots and lots of money is made selling fake Olive Oil. It can be cut with anything that looks like it, corn oil, canola, soy, so on.
You can get certification on your oils from your supplier. The only caution here; is doing this each time or being over cautious. This can cause a lot of work for your supplier, and cut into their profit margin. This can hurt your relationship, so try to keep the requests to a minimum. Every business has to make a profit.
Pomace Olive Oil, is tougher to test on your own. We always used a taste test. No….don’t ask, “What does it taste like”. There is no way to tell you in words.
The best thing to do always…..buy from a reputable supplier.
